Show/Event Picks of the Week – 8.18.09
Last week I slacked off and didn’t post anything for ya’ll to do…Truth is, I was trying to fall back myself as I gear up for my 30th birthday… I feel so selfish. LOL
This week, I’m a day late – my apologies to those who had events yesterday. However, we still have 6 days left in the week! (or 5, depending on how you look at it…)
Join Fresh Daily as he celebrates the release of his long-awaited album, “The Gorgeous Killer: In Crimes of Passion” at Fat Beats tonight @ 7pm!
Get your copy of the album signed by Fresh, chat it up with the artist and stay for a special performance featuring Tanya Morgan, Homeboy Sandman, P. So and Daniel Joseph (fresh off tour!).
Fresh Daily’s new album can also be purchased on iTunes. Check out the cover!
Also tonight, check out the Faces in the Crowd showcase over at the Times Square Arts Center. Tickets are $10 in advance or on the reduced list and $20 at the door. I’ll be there to check out Eboi da Rebel… Not such a fan of these industry showcases, but you always feel different when someone you know is actually rocking, no?
If you choose to stay in Brooklyn tonight, boy do we have a treat for you! The City Parks Concert Series and Lyricist Lounge presents DJ PREMIER & DJ SCRATCH! This is a FREE show in Red Hook Park, and the homie Niles will be opening up for these legendary DJ’s!

Then stay for the afterparty with DJ Raydar Ellis… Red Bamboo is located at 271 Adelphi Street. G to Clinton-Washington…
If you choose to skip the afterparty, I suggest you head into Manhattan to catch (iam) isis as she performs at the “Rock & Burlesque” show @ R Bar (218 Bowery between Prince and Spring Streets). Show starts at 8pm; cover is only $8!
For you soul heads, I’ve got a goodie! If you missed Honey Larochelle tear down Rock the Block this weekend, you have another chance to see her this week! She will be performing at The Triad alongside “The Day Show” and Chester Gregory! The Triad is located at 158 West 72nd Street ~ (Between Broadway & Columbus Avenue) on the 2nd Floor. Show starts at 8:30pm and the cover is $10 with a 2-drink minimum.
If you’re in New Jersey and/or can make the trip to New Brunswick, I highly recommend that you go to 360 Lounge to celebrate Cymarshall Law and Silent Knight‘s 6th Annual Birthday Bash! It’s right across the street from the New Brunswick train station, so you can’t get lost… Plus, it’s only $5 to get in!
I was SUPPOSED to be gearing up to jet down to Miami on Friday to start the birthday celebration early with my cousin, who flew in from Paris to celebrate hers, but alas – the recession killed my plans. *tear*
Always have a Plan B, folks… I’ll be starting my weekend off right @ The Point in the Bronx. I’ve heard so much about this spot but have yet to check it out…

Saturday night, Fresh Daily continues the celebration of his latest release with a joint show at Southpaw with the talented Che Grand, who also releases “Everything’s Good Ugly” today! Be sure not to miss this one!
I don’t go to EOW very often (maybe just a tad too much testosterone?), but I will make an exception this Sunday. Why? Because this week will feature a showcase by the uber-talented St. Joe Louis! And that can only mean one thing – a rumored Elite Assembly performance!!! Can’t wait… the EOW (End of the Weak) showcase is every Sunday @ Pyramid (101 Avenue A bet. 6th and 7th St.). Doors open at 8pm; Showcase at 10:30pm!
